PERHAM — A strong defensive night helped the Fergus Falls volleyball team defeat the Perham Yellowjackets 28-26, 26-24, 25-20 in the Section 8AA playoffs Friday.

“It helped to get confidence in that first playoff win,” Otters head coach Renee Erickson said of what led to Friday’s victory. We really focused on communication, hunger and finishing. It was not an easy task. We trusted out defense and that made a big difference in our play.”

Jade Zierden led the defensive effort with 32 digs, while Tori Ratz (23), Sabrina Fronning (21), Logan Strom (19) and Kaia Strom (15) were all in double figures.

The Otters will now take on the south’s No. 1 seed in Pequot Lakes at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a location to be decided upon.
