The Fergus Falls girls soccer team continued their impressive start to the season as they defeated the East Grand Forks Green Wave 5-3 Monday.
The Otters jumped out on the scoreboard in the first half as Annie Magnusson found Julia Johnson for a quick 1-0 strike. Magnusson later found Sophie Rausch for the Otters’ second goal, while Mady Eklund made it three-in-a-row for the home team off passes from Rausch and Mariah Laugen.
The Green Wave notched a score just before half on a penalty kick as the teams left for the break with the Otters holding a 3-1 lead.
Fergus Falls momentum carried into the second half as Sherry Johnson knocked in an unassisted goal to open the half. Johnson added her second goal of the match off a pass from Rausch to give the Otters a four goal lead.
East Grand Forks did not give up in the match as Rylee Skyberg and Nicole Schlenk added second half goals. The Otters held them off to pick up their third straight victory.
“These are two very physical teams and the game tonight showed it,” Otters head coach Ben Jurgens said. “Otters came out as focused and aggressive to the ball as I have seen in the past two years. I am so proud of the effort tonight, the girls battled for 80 minutes and had no regrets when it was over.”
The Otters will look to remain perfect as they travel to take on the Alexandria Cardinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.
