The Fergus Falls football team wrapped up their regular season with a 4-4 record and will host a home playoff game today.

The Otters welcome East Grand Forks, a team they defeated 19-6 earlier in the season. I spoke with Fergus Falls head coach Steve Olson about what to expect from the Green Wave this time around and what they will have to do to advance in the section playoffs.

Q. After last week’s win, do you feel the team is trending upward or the execution of the game plan was key?

A. We made plays when we needed to.  It was good to see us respond after we turned it over a couple times or after one of their scores.  Having two defensive touchdowns is always a big momentum swing in your favor as well.

Q. Another middle-of-the-week game, how have you prepared for the game?

A. We mixed in the weight room, film room and the practice field.  The big things are getting their bodies feeling good and making sure we identify East Grand’s tendencies and line up and react correctly.

Q. This is the second time you have played EGF, what did you learn the first time around that will help you in the playoff game?

A. They will be a different and better team this time around.  They played without their starting quarterback our first game but he is back and is a very good athlete.  They are big and physical upfront and like most teams have improved over the past four weeks.

Q. How is the health of the team entering the playoffs?

A. We are as healthy as we have been the past couple seasons.  Everybody is available to play.

Q. What will you need to do to continue the playoff trek?

A. Continue to improve our execution, win the turnover battle, and have guys step up to make plays when the opportunity presents itself.
