PARK RAPIDS — The Fergus Falls girls’ golf team laid claim to the Section 8A South subsection championship Wednesday at Headwaters Golf Club.

The Otters clubbed a team score of 367 followed by Perham (377) and Barnesville (426).

“This was a big win for the girls,” Otters head coach Ben Jurgens said. “I believe this is our first subsection win. It was a gorgeous day for golf and the course was in beautiful shape.”

Fergus Falls was led by runner-up finisher Annika Jyrkas with an 88, while teammates Annie Mayer (89) and Ellia Soydara (92) finished in third and fourth. Lexi Metcalf rounded out the team scoring with an 98. Thea Eklund (106) and Ella Mayer (106) also competed for the Otters.

“Ana and Annie provided solid base score and the rest of the team followed suit. We are super proud of the girls accomplishment,” Jurgens said.

Perham’s Mallory Belka won the meet with a 72.

The Otters will now travel to Bemidji to compete in the section tournament Monday and Tuesday.
