WILLMAR — The Fergus Falls boys’ swimming and diving team competed against a tough Willmar Cardinals team as the Otters’ host captured a 111-66 Central Lakes Conference win Thursday.
“The boys competed hard tonight,” Otters head coach Randy Hansen said. “We are very young and inexperienced so there will be some growing pains. We learned a lot about what it takes to compete in the CLC, especially on the road. I was proud of how they did not back down from the challenge.”
The Otters were led in the pool by Noah Osborn and Will Pawlowski as both recorded two second-place finishes. Osborn captured second place in the 200 freestyle (2:01.71) and 100 freestyle (53.98), while Pawlowski took runner-up honors in the 200 IM (2:23.25) and 100 backstroke (1:04.46).
Other top finishers for the Otters were Christian Reed in the 500 freestyle (second, 5:48.05), Sean Edman in the 50 freestyle (second, 24.07) and 100 butterfly (third, 1:08.15), and Steven Wohlenhaus in the 100 breaststroke (third, 1:16.84).
In the relay events, the Otters captured two firsts, two seconds and a third. The 200 freestyle team of Edman, Osborn, Tyler Kubela and Max Nacke (1:41.98) took first, while the team of Ty Butler, Logan Rott, Alec Richards and Micah Zosel (1:53.79) took second. In the 400 freestyle relay, Edman, Osborn, Reed and Pawlowski (3:42.76) grabbed first and the team of Wohlenhaus, Nacke, Kubela and Ryan Aanerud (4:11.65) took second. In the 200 medley, the team of Reed, Wohlenhaus, Kubela and Pawlowski (1:58.52) finished third.
The Otters will be back at home for their next meet as they welcome in Brainerd for a 6 p.m. splash Tuesday.
