SAUK CENTRE — The Fergus Falls boy’s hockey team used a five-goal first period to cruise to a 7-1 victory over hosting Prairie Centre Tuesday.
In the first, Mathew Niblock scored the first goal off a Carter Thielke pass at 1:19. Isaac Young would follow with a goal with an assist from Kaden Peterson less than four minutes later. Fergus Falls next three goal would come unassisted as Cole Zierden, Noah Tarczon and Michael DeBrito lit the lamp to give the Otters a 5-0 lead.
In the second period, the Otters extended their lead to six as Logen Schake knocked in a pass from Peterson. Prairie Centre would prevent the shutout with less than two minutes in the period as Eli Fletcher slipped a goal into the Otters net to put the game at 6-1.
Tarczon would tally his second goal and the final one of the game at 3:16 in the third with assists from Peterson and Young.
The Otters placed 36 shots on goal, while Fergus Falls goalie Ben Swanson had 19 saves in the win.
The Otters will continue their road excursion as they travel to take on Sauk Rapids-Rice at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
