PERHAM — In an epic Section 6A playoff battle, the Henning boys’ basketball team edged the Hillcrest Comets 54-52 Monday.

The Comets came out strong in the first half as they built a 28-24 lead before the break.

The top-seeded Hornets rallied from behind as they upended the Comets to pick up the playoff victory.

Blake Wallevand and Sam Fisher led the Hornets with 15 points apiece, while Adam Lange chipped in eight rebounds.

The Comets saw four players in double figures in scoring including Thomas Zwiers (14), Sander Frustol (12), Nick Foss (11) and Gabriel Preston (10). Frustol would finish the game with a double-double after grabbing 12 rebounds.

The Comets finish their season with a 14-11 record and Hillcrest coach Gregg Preston will retire from coaching the team after posting a 463-198 career record.

The Hornets will now travel to the University of Minnesota Morris to take on Mahnomen/Waubun at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the section semifinals.
