In quarterfinal action of the Section 6A boys basketball playoffs, the Henning Hornets used a strong start to the contest to defeat the Hillcrest Comets, 68-54.
36 minutes was not enough time to decide a winner between the Hillcrest Comets and Park Christian Falcons boys basketball teams, on Mar. 8. In the end, it was the Comets who walked away with a 66-64 victory, advancing in the Section 6A tournament.
Underwood junior Liz Lukken helped her team claim the consolation championship, at the 2023 Class A State Tournament. She was also named to the all-tournament team.
Henning guard Tyson Misegades had a strong week, leading his team to the section championship game versus Border West. In three games last week, he scored 49 points, including 24 against Hillcrest (on Mar. 13).Â
Wrapping up their regular season, on Mar. 3, the Hillcrest Comets boys basketball team defeated the Pelican Rapids Vikings via a 59-45 score. Pelican had a modest 25-22 lead at the break.
In second round action of the Section 6A girls basketball tournament, on Mar. 2, the Breckenridge Cowgirls defeated the Hillcrest Comets by a score of 67-62.
In Section 6A girls basketball playoff action, on Feb. 27, the No. 6 seeded Hillcrest Comets picked up a 68-36 home victory over the No. 11 seeded Battle Lake Lady Battlers.
Clashing for the second time on the season, the Battle Lake Battlers picked up a 68-56 victory over the Hillcrest Comets, in Little Eight Conference action, on Feb. 21.

On the road, on Jan. 20, the Hillcrest Comets girls basketball team went nip and tuck all night with the Hancock Owls, but the home team had one more point in the end, 71-70.
In a Little Eight Conference boys basketball game, on Jan. 19, the Battle Lake Battlers hit the game winning bucket as time expired to defeat the Hillcrest Comets, 62-60. Jacob Rademacher hit a mid-range jumper to win the game for BL.
