BERTHA —The hosting Bertha-Hewitt Bears shut out the Hillcrest Comets football team 36-0 Thursday.
The Bears would score 30 points in the first quarter to put the Comets in an early hole. Carter Perlinger would score two touchdowns, while Conner Bertram would run another in and take in a fumble on a kickoff. Bertram would end all scoring in the second quarter as he took off for a 54-yard touchdown.
“A slow start doomed us again and we weren’t able to climb out of an early hole,” Comets head coach Derrick Clark said. “We weren’t able to get any offense going in the wet conditions and struggled to find our rhythm.”
Caden Fischer led the Comets on the groudn with 25 yards on six carries and went 3-for-9 for 26 yards through the air, while Simon Strommen led the Comets on defense with 12 tackles and Jaxen Swedenburg recovered a fumble.
The Comets will close out their regular season as they welcome in Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley for a 7 p.m. tilt Wednesday.
