ROTHSAY — The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team found its rhythm early on in Friday’s game against the Rothsay Tigers as the Comets cruised to a 63-26 Little Eight Conference victory.
The Comets took command of the game in the first half as they outscored the Tigers 36-17. Hillcrest turned up the defensive heat in the second half as they held Rothsay to nine points in the remainder of the game.
“We are beginning to defend with great intensity and very good positioning on and off the basketball,” Comets head coach Gregg Preston said. “Rothsay is a good shooting team and we knew that we would have to defend the perimeter well and control the paint to stop ball penetration.”
Sander Frustol led the Comets with 21 points, while teammates Thomas Zweirs (15) and Micah Foss (11) were in double figures.
The Comets will welcome in the Pelican Rapids Vikings for a 7:15 p.m. tilt Tuesday. The Tigers will continue their homestand as they take on New York Mills at 7:15 p.m. Monday.
