It took the Rothsay Tigers volleyball team four games to extinguish the visiting Hillcrest Comets in Tuesday’s matchup between Little Eight Conference foes.
After dropping the first set 25-14 the Tigers rallied back winning three straight — 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 — to send the Comets packing.
“We had a phenomenal night of playing as a team and really finding open areas on the court. We struggled to find our game in Set 1, but the girls knew what needed to be fixed and worked on to be successful in the next sets. I’m privileged to have a team that has the ambition and work ethic to make changes and want what is best for our whole team,” Tigers head coach Kim Braaten said after the matchup. “Jenna Fabre had an amazing game on the net and in the back row. She is very steady and is a true go-getter on the court. With her, we had great saves by our setter Jayna Gronewald. She was all over the place tonight helping our team. She is the glue to our team and it really showed tonight. At the net, we had our middles who rocked it out as well. Both Summer Wigdahl and Kenadi Carlsrud had some very nice attacks as well as passing in the back row. Our team is getting stronger despite some last-minute changes in the few days, but we are excited to get to a practice tomorrow.”
Stat leaders for the team were: Fabre (7 aces, 8 kills 1 block, 2 assists), Gronewald (6 kills, 19 assists), Carslrud (1 ace, 7 kills, 5 blocks), Wigdahl (2 aces, 3 kills, 8 digs), Grace Lider (4 kills, 1 block) and Lilly Wheelright (4 kills, 1 block).
Up next the Tigers hit the road Thursday to take on the Battle Lake Battlers for a 7:15 p.m. matchup.
