MORRIS — The Henning girls’ basketball team punched its ticket to the Class A state tournament Friday as they rallied past the West Central Area Knights to claim the Section 6A title 56-50 Friday at the University of Minnesota - Morris.
The Hornets would have an early lead, but soon found themselves trailing the Knights by double figures. Henning would battle back before the break to cut the lead to 32-36.
In the second half, free throws became the key as the Hornets made 15-of-17 shots from the charity stripe and edge past West Central Area.
Ellie Dague led the Hornets in scoring with 32 points, while teammate Sydney Eckhoff pulled down 10 rebounds.
West Central Area was led in scoring by Lexi Bright with 17 points.
The Hornets dominated the rebounding battle 31-18.
The Knights finish their season with a 22-8 record.
The Hornets will now travel to the University of Minnesota’s Maturi Pavilion to take on Fillmore Central at 5 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of the Class A state playoffs.
