DELANO — The Fergus Falls Hurricanes advanced in the Class C State Tournament Saturday as they handed the Prior Lake Mudcats a 7-2 loss.
The Mudcats started the scoring with a run in the second inning, but the ’Canes responded with four runs of their own in the home half of the inning. With bases loaded, Alex Hensch ripped a single to score two runs. Alex Hexum would follow with an infield single to reload the bases and after a pop out, Thomas Bosek singled in two more runs to take a 4-1 lead.In the fifth, Bosek led off with a triple and Tosten Mann would hit a sacrifice fly to bring him home.
The eighth inning saw Prior Lake threaten with two walks to lead off. The ’Canes would call on Eric Hinnenkamp to relieve starter Pete Gaustad. Hinnenkamp would induce a double play. The Mudcats would single in a run, but Fergus Falls responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Jake Anderson hit a two-run double.
Anderson, Bosek and Hensch each had two RBIs in the win, while Anderson and Bosek each collected two hits.
Gaustad picked up the win working seven innings, striking out nine and allowed two earned runs on three hits. Hinnenkamp picked up the save pitching the final two innings.
The Hurricanes will now take on the Jordan Brewers, a 10-4 winner over Bird Island, Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. in Delano.
