Be Prepared

BE PREPARED: Otter goalie Ana Jyrkas drops to a butterfly stance as she hones in on the save.

Ana Jyrkas, a sophomore and the starting goaltender for the Fergus Falls Otters girls hockey team, was recently named as a “MN Girls’ Hockey Hub” top performer for the week of Dec. 27-Jan. 1. She helped the Otters claim the title at the Robbinsdale Cooper Holiday Tournament, stopping 49 of 53 shots in the three games and received 42% of the top performer votes. “I think we’ve been playing really well and have a good bond between the whole team,” said Jyrkas. When asked about what led her into playing goaltender, Jyrkas stated, “I think I was eight and in Mites, they made us try goalie and I fell in love with it.”

Jyrkas is amongst the leaders in wins on the season across Minnesota. The Otter girls hockey team is in the second half of their season and has eight games remaining in the regular season.
