LAKE CITY — The M State golf team traveled to Lake City for the MCAC dual men’s golf meet Monday at The Jewel Golf Club defeating SW Tech (Fennimore, Wisconsin) with a score of 352. Spartans golfer Hunter Burnside was the medalist with a round of 79.
Other M State golfers who took part in the dual were Joel Quam (82), Grand Inniger (83), Sam Western (89) and Mikey Vall (91). Jordan Caspers (95) also golfed Monday.
“Overall we were up and down today and struggled to keep the ball in play. But it was a fun day on an outstanding golf course and it’s always a pleasure to compete against SW Tech,” said Spartans head coach Jason Retzlaff. “They didn’t have their full group with them so it should be a close battle when we travel to Wisconsin in October for the national qualifier. Hunter Burnside had a very nice day today and continues to putt the ball very well. Joel Quam hit a lot of quality shots and I thought Sam Western really hung in there in his first college competition.”
The Spartans will next compete at home (men and women) in the Spartan Invitational on Sunday (12 p.m.) and Monday (9 a.m.) at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls.
