Spartans men's golfer Mikey Vall hits an approach shot at Minnewaska Golf Course on Friday.

GLENWOOD — The M State Spartans golf team won a close team competition at the UMM Invite at Minnewaska Golf Course Friday with a team score of 341 followed by MN-Morris (343) and Martin Luther College (345).

Individually for the Spartans Grant Inniger led the Spartans with a 78 (individual runner-up) while MN-Morris’ Brady Raph was the men’s medalist with a 75.

For the women’s team competition MN-Morris took first with a 383. Individually Hannah Selig was the medalist with a 93.

“Overall we struggled today but hung in there just enough to pull out a close one in the team competition,” said Spartans head coach Jason Retzlaff. “Grant Inniger had a very nice round today.  He was six over par through six holes and then played the final 12 holes even par to lead us.  We look forward to playing better tomorrow at Pomme de Terre.”

The Spartans took part in the Cougar Invite at Pomme de Terre Golf Course in Morris Saturday.
