The M State Spartans baseball team (1-3) hit the field Thursday for its home opener against the Minnesota West Community College Blue Jays. The Spartans got control of the game early on as the home team picked up a 12-2 victory.

The M State men’s basketball team closed out their season at home against Riverland Saturday. But it would be the guest that left the court with the win as Blue Devils claimed an 88-60 victory.

The M State men’s basketball team held on to a 76-74 victory over visiting Sisseton-Wahpeton Wednesday.

A rough first half allowed the visiting Riverland Riverland Community College Blue Devils to upend the M State men’s basketball team Saturday 88-47.

The M State women’s basketball team celebrated its first win of the season Saturday as the Spartans held on to defeat the Riverland Community College Blue Devils 56-54.



The M State women’s basketball team was in search of its first win Saturday as it began Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) play against the Rochester Yellowjackets. But a hiccup in the second quarter gave the visitor the opportunity to gain the lead and pick up a 78-65 win.

The M State men’s basketball team (0-1) welcomed in the Rochester Community College Yellowjackets for an Saturday afternoon tilt. The visiting Yellowjackets used a 29-point first half lead to coast to a 92-55 victory.

The M State women’s basketball team kicked off their 2021 season Saturday as the Spartans welcomed in the Jamestown JV. It was a back-and-forth battle, but the visiting Jimmies edged the Spartans 60-56.

Basketball players are back on the court at Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) as practice resumed Jan. 11 and the men’s and women’s teams start their home seasons on Saturday, Jan. 30, in Fergus Falls.

The M State men’s golf team came away from hosting a tournament and a triangular feeling good as the Spartans won Sunday’s Spartan Invite and followed with a triangular victory over Dickinson State and Valley City State at Pebble Lake Golf Course.

Despite an athletic season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Minnesota State Community and Technical College coaches carried on the tradition of honoring excellence by Spartan athletes during the 2019-20 sports year.

New this fall at Minnesota State Community and Technical College is the sport of clay target, which became a varsity sport in the Minnesota College Athletic Association in 2019.

Kaia Strom, senior setter from Kennedy Secondary School, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball for the Minnesota State Community and Technical College Spartans.

Jodi Holleman, who has more than 20 years of experience coaching at the high school and college levels, has been named head coach of the Minnesota State Community and Technical College women’s basketball team.

COON RAPIDS — The M State men’s basketball team made over 57% of its shots in Wednesday’s road game against Anoka-Ramsey, but the Golden Rams would do just enough to hold off the Spartans for a 99-89 victory.

The M State men’s basketball team kicked off its MCAC Southern Division schedule at home against Anoka-Ramsey Community College Wednesday. The visiting Golden Rams would run away with the game in the second half as they defeated the Spartans 84-64.

The 32nd annual Spartan Basketball Buddies camp will be held over Monday, Jan. 6 and Monday, Jan. 13 at M State in Fergus Falls and is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade.  The sessions will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on.

The M State men’s basketball team place fiver players in double digits Thursday as the Spartans defeated the Concordia JV 81-68.

M State volleyball player Bailey Marty was named MCAC Defensive Player of the Week recently. Marty averaged 6.50 digs per set for the Spartans. The freshman from Chokio had 39 total digs in two Spartan wins. Marty helped lead her team to the Region XIII A tournament as the No. 2 seed this weekend.

M State’s Bailey Marty was named MCAC Defensive Player of the Week. Marty had a total of 96 digs in three matches for the Spartans. Marty had highs of 38 and 41 digs against SCTCC and Western Tech. She also had a total of eight aces with a high of four against Rochester.

The M State volleyball team claimed a three-set (25-6, 25-7, 25-8) victory over Anoka-Ramsey Wednesday. Katherine Mastey led the team with 10 kills. The Spartans will host Riverland Community College at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

M State’s Alexa Mortensen was named Hitter of the Week in MCAC. Mortensen had seven total aces including five against Ridgewater. She notched 24 total kills and 10 total blocks including four each against NDSCS and Concordia JV and was in the double digits for digs this week with a total of 13.
