ST. CLOUD — The M State baseball team saw its season come to an end Friday, May 17 as it dropped two games in the Region XIII Tournament.
After defeating Hibbing Community College (8-2) and Rochester Community and Technical College (8-4), the Spartans took on Century College. The Spartans struggled in the field committing four errors and fell to Century 2-0.
Century plated both runs in the second inning and held the Spartans for the remainder of the game.
Jake Dykhoff took the loss pitching a complete game, striking out nine and allowing no earned runs. Dykhoff also led the team at the plate going 2-for-4, while Will Magnusson, Ryan Schmitz, Matt Pietsch and Eric Salvesen each had a hit in the game.
The Spartans season came to an end as they fell to St. Cloud Technical and Community College 4-1.
M State scored its lone run in the third inning, but left 14 runners on base in the loss.
Matt Hagen took the loss for the Spartans as he pitched seven innings and gave up two earned runs. Pietsch led M State at the plate going 2-for-4, while Tom Magnusson provided the lone RBI.
Dykhoff and Pietsch were recognized for their individual contributions as they were named to the MCAC All-State team, while the duo and Devin Bush received All-Central Division honors.
Dykhoff went 9-3 on the mound, including throwing a perfect game, and averaged 13.2 strikeouts per game. Offensively, he posted a .380 average, with four homers and 31 RBI.
Pietsch recorded 50 RBIs, while batting a .421 average with a .591 slugging percentage.
Bush droved in 32 runs and scored 40 times. He had a .355 batting average with four home runs.
The Spartans end the season with a 32-10 record, tied for most wins in by the program in a season.
