The M State men’s golf team competed at the two-day St. John’s Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The tournament took place at Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre on Day 1 and at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell on Day 2.
“While we really struggled this weekend, it was a great event for our team to compete in with 22 teams from top-notch four-year college golf programs,” Spartans head coach Jason Retzlaff said. “There were so many great players in the field and we learned a lot about playing on two long, wet, and difficult golf courses. After playing six competitive rounds in nine days, it will be nice to have some time this week to get some practice in before the closing stretch of our fall schedule.”
The Spartans finished 20th with a two-day total of 655 (322, 333). St. Thomas won the invite with a two-day team total of 582.
Leading the way for the Spartans was Carter Justesen with a 158, shooting a duplicate 79 at each course. Teammate Wyatt Blomseth was on his heels with a 161 (79, 82). Rounding out the team scoring were Grant Inniger (168), Trevor Dalbec (170) and John Vall (187).
Also in action at the event were former M State All-American Hunter Moen and Fergus Falls alum Nate Longtin. Moen, playing for St. Cloud State, carded a 157 (78, 79), while Longtin, playing for Concordia, finished the invite with a 158 (80, 78).
