The M State volleyball team went 1-1 over the weekend as they took on Riverland CC and Minnesota West Friday and Saturday.

In Friday’s matchup, the Spartans swept Riverland CC 25-9, 25-13, 25-15.

Katherine Mastey led M State on the attack with 13 kills, while Bailey Marty recorded six ace serves and had 11 digs.

The Spartans faltered on Saturday as Minnesota West came from two sets down to defeat the Spartans 20-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 18-16.

Mastey (17), Hannah Eske (14) and Alexa Mortenson (11) each were in double figures in kills, while Marty recorded 39 digs.

“We played well against Riverland, but it was very disappointing to lose the match against Minnesota West,” Spartans head coach Abby Crowser said. “Being up two sets and then losing in five should not have happened and we need to work on our overall mental toughness. The mental side of athletics is so important and it’s  an aspect we need to improve on in order to be successful moving forward.”

The Spartans will look to rebound as they travel to Coon Rapids to take on Anoka-Ramsey at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
