EAST GRAND FORKS — The Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team did a great job shutting down the East Grand Forks offense Saturday as the Otters defeated the Green Wave 3-1.

The Otters would get out to an early lead as Ellie Andersen knocked in a goal off passes from Jade Zierden and Maddie Hulter at 1:22. The Otters would strike again in the second as Lexi McGary notched a goal with assists from Hope Goepferd and Vivian Karsnia.

In the third periods, Fergus Falls pushed the lead to 3-0 with a goal from Jadyn Bye with assists from Skye Norgren and Talia Nelson. The Green Wave’s Kate Johnson prevented the shutout with a goal midway through the final period.

“That was our best team effort all season,” Otters head coach Tim Lill said.  “We outworked them physically and mentally, causing many turnovers and ultimately three dirty goals.  Our defensemen were outstanding, allowing thirteen shots to a team that averages thirty a game.”

Otters goalie Lexi Metcalf recorded 12 saves, while Fergus Falls placed 25 shots on goal in the victory.

The Otters will continue on the road as they take on Brainerd-Little Falls at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
