PELICAN RAPIDS — The Pelican Rapids volleyball team entered its season opener Tuesday with several new faces and a new offense as they took on the Park Christian Falcons. The visiting Falcons took advantage of the team’s inexperience in the early season as the Vikings fell in three sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.
“We had some issues with our setting and hitting consistency tonight which is expected with an inexperienced team implementing a new offense,” Vikings head coach Heidi Isaman said. “We finally started to get into a little more of a rhythm offensively halfway through the first set to dig ourselves out of a hole but not enough to get the win.”
Ryley Paulson and Riley Berg led the Vikings in digs with nine apiece, while Anna Stephenson recorded six kills in the game.
“Even though this was not the outcome we wanted for our season opening I am very proud of the effort and resilience the girls showed tonight. They passed the ball very well all night and competed until the end against a very athletic and experienced team,” Isaman said.
The Vikings will now travel to take on the Hillcrest Comets at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
