PELICAN RAPIDS — The Underwood boys’ basketball team competed in the Pelican Rapids Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday as they took on host Pelican Rapids and Warroad.
In their opening game Friday, the Rockets could not keep pace with Pelican Rapids as Underwood fell 80-51.
“We just couldn't keep up with the pace that the Vikings wanted to play tonight,” Rockets head coach Evan Meece said. “They did a great job of moving the ball around and creating shots for each other. They were lights out from shooting behind the arc and we got tired and weren't able to contest every shot.”
Winston Heifort led the Rockets in scoring with 17 points, while Braden Thorson dropped in 10 tallies.
McHale Korf would lead the scoring for the Vikings with 19 points, while Logan Fahje (15), Logan Petznick (13) and Jayden Rutherford (12) were also in double figures.
On Saturday, the Rockets took on the Warroad Warriors in the third-place game. The Warriors would run away with the game winning 56-32.
"We came out way too flat this morning and let Warroad build a big first half lead. We played a better second half but gave them way too big of a lead in the first half. We need to limit our turnovers and create more opportunities on the offensive end moving forward,” Meece said.
Canaan Kugler would be the lone Rocket in double figures with 10 points.
The Rockets will look to get back on track in the new year as they travel to take on Bertha-Hewitt at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
