WADENA — The Underwood football team was ready to celebrate a regular season finale victory Wednesday, but the hosting Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines scored a fourth-quarter touchdown and held the Rockets late to pick up a 22-20 win.

UNDERWOOD — In an entertaining battle between two Little Eight Conference foes, the Underwood volleyball team overcame a first set loss to upend the Hillcrest Comets 22-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-17 Thursday.

ADA — A strong rushing attack by the hosting Ada-Borup football team led the Cougars to a 34-8 victory over the Underwood Rockets Friday.

HANCOCK — After falling in the first set, the Underwood volleyball team rallied to sweep the next three and picked up a 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 victory over the Hancock Owls Thursday.

ROTHSAY — The Underwood volleyball team used a balanced attack against Little Eight Conference rival Rothsay Tuesday as the Rockets picked up a three-set (25-19, 25-23, 25-15) victory.

UNDERWOOD — The Underwood volleyball team cruised past the visiting Wheaton Warriors Saturday as the Rockets won in three sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-12).

In a game that was moved to Fergus Falls due to Thursday’s snow storm, the Underwood Rockets football team hosted the New York Mills Eagles Friday. The conditions made it difficult for both teams, but the Eagles overcame a few miscues to edge the Rockets 6-0.

UNDERWOOD — After a slow start, the Underwood volleyball team found its groove as the Rockets recorded a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) over the West Central Area Knights Wednesday.

UNDERWOOD — The Underwood football team got a scare Thursday as the visiting Frazee Hornets attempted a comeback. But like most scary movies, the impending threat was thwarted as the Rockets held on to win 20-19. 



With a very nontraditional 2020 football season,  the Underwood Rockets entered a new unknown. After a successful coaching career, former head coach Chuck Ross hung up his whistle after the 2019 season.

UNDERWOOD — The Underwood volleyball team claimed its first win of the season as it upended Little Eight Conference foe Battle Lake in three sets (25-18, 28-26, 25-21) Monday.

LAKE PARK — The Underwood football team got its 2020 season off to a great start as a big second half propelled the Rockets to a 38-6 victory over the Lake Park-Audubon Raiders Friday.

BRANDON — The Underwood volleyball team opened its 2020 season on the road against Little Eight Conference opponent Brandon-Evansville Thursday. In a tight battle, the hosting Chargers picked up a four-set win (25-14, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19) over the Rockets.

There will be several changes on the horizon for the Underwood volleyball team during the 2020 season. First, the season will start over a month and a half later than usual. Second, the team will head out against opponents with new head coach Breck Grove, who replaces local legend Diane Ross.

MORRIS — The West Central Area and Underwood girls’ basketball team had a back-and-forth battle Saturday as the two teams took the court against each other in the Pheasant Conference Showcase. The Knights would be the victor in the game as they defeated the Rockets 57-53.

ROTHSAY — The Rothsay boys’ basketball team would lay claim to a 64-50 Little Eight Conference win Tuesday as the Tigers defeated the Underwood Rockets.

Underwood single-sport athlete Marc Horikoshi is confident that despite some early-season hiccups for the boys’ basketball team, the fabric that binds them together will be enough to get the Rockets moving in the right direction come playoff time.
