A day after setting the school record for wins in a season, the Underwood Rockets girls basketball team added on one more, defeating the Gators of Badger-Greenbush-Middle River 47-32, in the consolation championship of the 2023 Class A Girls State Basketball Tournament.
Less than 24 hours after their quarterfinal loss, at the 2023 Class A Girls State Basketball Tournament, the Underwood Rockets squared off against the Vikings of Minneota. Underwood used a strong second half performance and came away with a 60-43 victory.
Underwood junior Liz Lukken helped her team claim the consolation championship, at the 2023 Class A State Tournament. She was also named to the all-tournament team.
Henning guard Tyson Misegades had a strong week, leading his team to the section championship game versus Border West. In three games last week, he scored 49 points, including 24 against Hillcrest (on Mar. 13).Â
Opening up the 2023 Class A Girls State Basketball Tournament, on Mar. 16, the Underwood Rockets, the No. 4 seed, fell to the No. 5 seed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars, 60-44. Underwood turned the ball over 22 times in the game and the Jaguars had 13 more shots in the contest.

The Underwood Rockets boys basketball team saw their season come to a close, on Mar. 8, as they fell to the Henning Hornets via an 82-61 score. Henning held a 47-35 lead after the first 18 minutes.
In first round action of the Section 6A boys basketball tournament, the Underwood Rockets turned a halftime deficit into a 69-58 victory over the Rothsay Tigers.

In conference action, on Feb. 14, the Underwood Rockets boys basketball team trailed 37-33 at the break but pulled out a one point victory over the Hancock Owls, 68-67.

The Parkers Prairie Panthers boys basketball team limited the Underwood Rockets over the first 18 minutes of play and then held on for a 62-57 Little Eight Conference victory.
A back and forth affair early turned into a large halftime lead for the Buccaneers of Border West, as they came away with a 69-50 victory over the Underwood Rockets, on Jan. 6, in boys basketball.
The Underwood Rockets and Battle Lake Battlers squared off in boys basketball, on Jan. 5. BL jumped out to a 30-12 halftime lead, saw Underwood get the deficit down to single digits before finishing the game on a 10-2 and winning 56-39.
Traveling to take on the Falcons of Park Christian, on Jan. 3, the Underwood Rockets boys basketball team led the entire way, in a tight 61-58 victory. The Rockets never led by more than seven points in the game and held a 34-32 halftime lead
The Underwood Rockets boys basketball team entertained the Cowboys of Breckenridge, on Dec. 30. The two sides treated fans to an overtime game, which saw the Cowboys come away with a 98-92 victory.
The Ottertail Central Bulldogs wrestling team kicked off their season last week. On Dec. 1 they traveled to Pelican Rapids for a triangular with the Vikings and West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville. Then they followed that up with the Dan Unruh Invitational in Wahpeton on Dec 2-3.
The Underwood Rockets football team was able to reflect on their season and celebrate their team award winners this past weekend during a potluck supper.
The Little Eight Conference announced their award winners and all-conference teams for fall of 2022. The conference champion was Clinton/Graceville/Beardsley. The Conference MVP went to Jessica Moberg (CGB) and the Coach of the Year was Hillcrest’s Debi Foss.
