PELICAN RAPIDS — In a showdown between two top teams in the Heart O’Lakes Conference and Section 8AA, the hosting Pelican Rapids girls’ basketball team outlasted the visiting Breckenridge Cowgirls 43-41 Friday.
The Vikings jumped out to a 23-8 lead in the first half, but quickly saw the Cowgirls cut into the lead as Pelican Rapids held a 25-20 lead at the break. In the second half, Breckenridge would cut the lead to one in the beginning and exchange leads with the Vikings throughout the remainder of the game. Clutch free throw shooting by Morgan Korf gave Pelican Rapids the cushion it needed to get the win.
Greta Tollefson led the team with 15 points, while Anna Stephenson added 11 points of her own.
The Cowgirls were led in scoring by Grace Conzemius (15) and Jude Held (14).
The Vikings will be back in action Thursday as they welcome in the Frazee Hornets at 7:30 p.m.
