Eye on state: West Central Area golfer Jessica St. Martin hits a shot from the fairway during the section meet Thursday. St. Martin advanced to the Class A state tournament at Pebble Creek June 11-12.

The West Central Area girls’ golf team closed out its 2019 season as it finished fourth at the section meet.

The Knights advanced to Day 2 of the tournament, but ended the day with a two-day team score of 890. Lac qui Parle Valley (720) won the meet, followed by Benson (849) and Lakeview (888).

“We are sad to say goodbye to our four seniors; Lexi Poyzer, Libby Poyzer, Kate Wrolson and Emily Courrier,” Knights head coach Kari Kreft said. “These four young ladies are incredible people and will be missed.  They have been our leaders and source of motivation for several years.  They each have their unique talents, are incredibly good students and even better people.  We are excited to see what they will accomplish in the future.  They were so excited for Jessica and what she accomplished today.”

On the plus side, the Knights’ Jessica St. Martin (95) advanced to the state tournament as an individual finished with a 187 two-day score, good enough for fourth overall. Rounding out the team scoring for the Knights on the second day were Lexi Poyzer (112), Libby Poyzer (116) and Wrolson (120). Hunter (123) and Courrier (148) also carded scores.

St. Martin will now travel to Pebble Creek for the Class A state golf meet Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12.
